A FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy perished in a fire that hit their home Friday before dawn in Makati City.

Makati City Fire Marshal Supt. Anthony Arroyo said firefighters found the boy’s charred body, (identified as Aaron Lance Apostol,) at the ground floor for their two-storey burnt house located at 2669 Gen. Malvar St., Brgy Cembo.

The boy’s father, a 28-year-old tricycle driver, sustained second degree burn on left hand when he tried to rescue his son while the latter’s 20-year-old live-in partner, suffered difficulty in breathing.

A parallel investigation conducted by Southern Police District (SPD) Forensic Unit led by P/EMS Dondon Villaralbo and Arson Investigators SFO4 Jaime Macababayao, SFO1 Jomhar Tuburan and FO3 Lester Batalla, all of Makati BFP, showed the fire broke out at around 1:07 a.m. at a house on 2669 and 2667 Gen. Malvar St. and quickly spread to nearby houses mostly made of light materials.

The boy was left behind sleeping in his room at the second floor when his father went out to ply his trade, accompanied by his live-in partner. The two went back when they learned that their house was on fire and tried to rescue the boy.

An initial report showed that overheating rechargeable electric fan was alleged to have caused the fire that also gutted eight more houses and displaced 25 families, but arson investigators are still conducting investigation to determine the real cause of the blaze.

SFO4 Judy Saberon said the electricity, where the fire started, had not been restored after a fire hit the area in 2018.

The fire reached 3rd alarm before it was placed under control at around 2 a.m. until it was finally put out at around 2:26 a.m. Makati BFP are still determining the amount of damage destroyed by the fire.
