Cop shoots buddy, self dead
NARVACAN, Ilocos Sur–A policeman on Thursday morning shot in the head his colleague then shooting himself also in the head, causing them to die instantly inside the municipal police station here in Brgy. San Antonio Narvacan.
Col. Jugith Del Prado, police director, said that based on their initial investigation Patrolman Joe Mendoza, 27, of Balaoan, La Union, suddenly shot P Cpl Jeric Ace Abaoag y Garcillan, 29, of Brgy San Antonio Narvacan, in the head without any reason.
After shooting his buddy, Mendoza also shot his own head. Both of them died on the spot.
“I want to make it clear that there was no shootout but just a shooting incident inside the municipal station.
It was initially gathered that Mendoza suffered stress then suddenly shot to death his colleague at the 3rd floor of the Narvacan PNP station,” Col Del Prado said in a telephone call.
Police report said: “While duty personnel were at the ground floor, they heard three successive gunshots coming from the third floor.
Thereafter, after personnel of this station went to the third floor, they saw the two policemen bloody and lying down on the floor.”
Based on initial investigation it was disclosed that while Abaoag and Mendoza went upstairs carrying their personal belongings, after a few minutes personnel on duty at the first floor heard two successive gunshots and followed by another shot.
Dr. Angelo Guerin, rural health unit doctor, declared the two dead upon examination.
