CIDG nabs MWP for ‘rape’ in NCR
A 47-YEAR-OLD man tagged as the most wanted person (MWP) for ‘rape’ in Metro Manila was arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Tondo, Manila, on Monday, PNP-CIDG Director Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee said.
The suspect did not resist arrest after being surrounded by officers from the CIDG Women and Children Concern Unit in front of a barangay hall in Mel Lopez Boulevard in Moriones, Tondo, on Monday afternoon, amid a directive from PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. for the PNP-CIDG to intensify its effort to account for MWPs in the country.
The suspect was arrested on the strength of a warrant for two counts of qualified rape and sexual assault issued by Judge Maria Celestina Cruz-Mangrobang of the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 38, Lee said.
Records showed that the suspect started sexually abusing his 10-year-old victim in March 2008. The sexual attacks went on repeatedly until the victim got impregnated by the accused.
“The trauma suffered by the victim at the hands of the accused prompted her to seek the help of our office,” said Lee.
The PNP-CIDG director said that the CIDG-WCCU filed a criminal complaint against the suspect before the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office last June 9. Judge Cruz-Mangrobang issued the warrant of arrest against the accused last August 12.
“This accomplishment of the WCCU is proof of what the CIDG do best – we investigate, file a complaint in court based on our investigation, arrest and put perpetrators behind bars, and ensure that offenders will be held accountable for their crimes,” said Lee.
