Budget officers

EVERYBODY agrees that budget officers (BOs) play a crucial role in protecting the people’s hard-earned money and in executing government programs and projects.

Thus, we commend the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for conducting a series of roadshows on public financial management (PFM) across the Philippines.

DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman made the announcement during her meeting with officials and members of the Association of Local Budget Officers (ALBOs) in Batangas.

She said the “roadshows” are aimed at equipping the BOs with the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out their jobs, especially when it comes to managing the budget.

“Further, the roadshows give proper guidance to budget officers to the proper interpretation of procurement laws, audit rules, and other pertinent policies,” said Pangandaman.

Last May 30, President Marcos signed Executive Order 29, directing public offices to implement an integrated financial management information system (IFMIS) on processing of transactions.

The Chief Executive issued the executive order to pave the way for the full digitalization of the public financial management (PFM) processes through the IFIMS.

The full implementation of IFMIS is seen to ensure strict compliance with existing procurement laws, rules and regulations, and improve treasury cash management.

Like other well-meaning Filipinos, we share the view of the lady DBM secretary that there’s that need to protect the hard-earned money of Juan dela Cruz.

It’s a move in the right direction.
