RECOGNIZING the elderly’s contributions to the community, Barangay San Antonio (BSA), Pasig City, has started distributing mid-year cash gifts to their over 1,000 senior residents.

Notably, BSA is the only barangay in Pasig City that provides incentives to senior citizens (SCs), same with the benefits given by the City Government of Pasig.

According to BSA Chairman Raymond Lising, 1,072 senior citizens will receive P1,000 mid-year cash gifts from the barangay this month, and they are almost done with the distribution.

“We started with the distribution during the second week of June. As of today, we are 96 percent done delivering the cash gifts of our senior citizens to their homes – an option that we choose to ensure that they are protected from COVID-19. Pandemic pa rin naman tayo and we want them to enjoy our gift without risking their health, lalo na at kasama sila sa mga vulnerable population,” Lising said.

As such, the elderly residents of BSA will also be relishing upgraded benefits from the barangay as part of the “Alagang BSA” initiative, prioritizing the welfare of those who are aged 60 years old and above.

“This is our way of thanking our BSA lolos and lolas. In their glory days, they were part of the workforce that drove the barangay to the successful business district it is right now. And now, they are every family’s go-to people when it comes to guidance and wisdom,” Lising expressed.

“They deserve so much more and we’re giving them the best perks. Pinahahalagahan sila ng barangay at ipararamdam namin ‘yon sa kanila,” he went on.

Aside from the P1,000 mid-year cash gift for seniors every June, they receive a cake and gift pack during their birthday, as well as a P500 Christmas cash gift and “Pamaskong Handog” of 10 kilos of rice every December, which are part of BSA’s improved senior citizen programs.

“We will also continue celebrating their lives by giving them P5,000 cash gift upon reaching 90 years old, and a P10,000 cash gift when they turn 100,” the BSA chairman added. “Talagang naglalaan tayo ng barangay funds for these programs. Alam natin na ‘yong mga senior natin may maintenance medicines na, some have ailments, not to mention the impact of pandemic hindi lang health but also sa finances ng bawat pamilya.”

Moreover, BSA also gives P5,000 in funeral assistance to the immediate family of senior citizens.
