Translation?

“Part of the continuous efforts of the Bureau of Customs under the leadership of Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, are the raids of at least three warehouses in Metro Manila and Subic, Zambales to pin down suspected smugglers of imported vegetables and other products.

“On October 13, the BOC – Port of Manila through the Port’s Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), investigated various alleged illegally imported fresh vegetables and other commodities in an operation conducted at two warehouses located in Tondo, Manila and in Navotas.

“The inspection in Tondo led to the discovery of possible misdeclared, misclassified, and undervalued imported vegetables and other goods with an estimated value of P35 million.

“The next day, October 14, the BOC – Subic and the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority seized about P15 million worth of illegally imported fresh vegetables. According to reports, smuggled fresh vegetables were found inside five 40-footer container vans that were declared to contain frozen assorted vegetables.

‘“If these containers were not intercepted by the BOC, these smuggled vegetables could have flooded the local markets by now. At the end of the day, our farmers are the ones who suffer the most from this smuggling issue. They should have not to compete with these smuggled vegetables as their produce should be our priority in terms of distribution and consumption,” said Yap.

“We are grateful with the BOC who have consistently stepped up their surveillance operations to secure the country’s national borders and protect the government revenue. We appreciate that they heeded to our appeal for them to intensify their operations so we can protect our local farmers,” the solon expressed.

“We also laud the BOC for their heightened efforts in the seizure of other smuggled items, particularly cars.

“The local car industry, including the legitimate car dealers, remain at the losing end when smuggled cars enter the country without proper documentation and payment of taxes.

“We are confident that under the leadership of Commissioner Guerrerro, the BOC can sustain these intensified operations so as to protect our local economy,” Yap added.

Ayos ba ‘yan, Comm Jagger? Aber, magpakape ka naman, hehe!
