Bilibid raid nets deadly weapons, cellphones

A SURPRISE raid at the maximum security compound in the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa led to the confiscation of various contrabands specifically mobile phones and deadly weapons.

Raided were prison cells at Building 7 dormitories in Quadrant 3 last April 11, 2021, the Bureau of Corrections said in a Facebook post last Thursday.

Seized were tencellphones; five flashdrive, four simcards; 513 rolled tobaccos, five allon fermented liquo, seven packs Ymyeast, an improvised liquor maker, 103 improvised deadly weapons, headset; five sets of playing cards; sling shot, 34 containers of improvised liquor; and a unit of Huawei wifi.

BuCor Deputy Director General for Operations and for Administration, Assistant Secretary Gabriel P. Chaclag led the operation. He was joined by corrections Chief Superintendent Victor Erick Pascua of the Directorate for Security and Operations, Corrections Technical Chief Superintendent John Paul Santos of the Directorate for Administration, representatives from the offices of NBP Superintendent, Overseer, the Commander of the Guards, the Intelligence and Investigation Division, BuCor Special Weapons and Tactics, among others.

As per policy, contrabands are kept in custody of BuCor’s Intelligence and Investigation Section. Appropriate charges will br prepared before the Board of Discipline against the persons deprived of liberty (PDL) for violation of prison rules.

“When it comes to sustaining transformation within the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), Director General Undersecretary Gerald Q. Bantag employs the highest standards. His leadership is firm in fulfilling the twin mandates of BuCor, which are to safe keep and to rehabilitate persons deprived of liberty,” BuCor said.

Aside from NBP in Muntinlupa, the other BuCor prison facilities are Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City, the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Oriental Mindoro, Davao Prison and Penal Farm in Davao del Norte, Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Palawan, San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City, and the Leyte Regional Prison in Southern Leyte.
