A TOTAL of P2.5-million will be up for grabs as five of the country’s top thoroughbreds will slug it out in a virtual grudge match in the 2023 Philracom Commissioners’ Cup at the Metro Manila Turf Club in Malvar, Batangas.

Heading the stellar cast of protagonists is 2022 Presidential Gold Cup champ Big Lagoon which will be partnered anew with John Alvin Guce.

Out to give him a run for his money is defending Commissioners’ Cup champion and last year’s Chairman’s Cup victor Boss Emong with Jonathan Hernandez on top.

PGC runner-up and Boss Emong’s chief rival, Super Swerte will also try to exact sweet revenge on Big Lagoon for the top prize of P1.5-million this time ridden by Andrew Villegas.

Not to be overlooked in this encounter is two-leg winner of last year’s Triple Crown Basheirrou which will be handled by regular rider Kelvin Abobo.

Gunning to play spoiler is 2022 Philracom 3YO Sprint winner Gomezian which, too will be paired with regular rider Oneal Cortez.

Philracom Chairman Reli de Leon said, “This year’s Commissioners’ Cup line-up makes it a wide open race with the distance set at 1600 meters. The winner of this race will take the first step in gunning for the Triple Cup, a battle of the best 4YO and above horses, which has an added bonus to the one who will sweep the three legs namely the Commissioners’ Cup, the Classic and the Chairman’s Cup.”
