On ‘hacking’ of Comelec website:

THE camp of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. on Tuesday said it will exercise prudence in issuing a statement on the alleged hacking of the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) website pending results of the poll body’s investigation.

Atty. Vic Rodriguez, Marcos chief-of-staff and spokesman, cautioned the public from immediately jumping into conclusion that may undermine the integrity of Comelec’s preparation for the May presidential polls.

“We do not intend to immediately jump into any conclusion that could lead to undermining or discrediting the preparations and the conduct of the May 9 general elections,” Rodriguez stressed.

“We are keenly observing the development on the alleged hacking on the Comelec systems with prudence by awaiting confirmation by those tasked to investigate the incident,” Rodriguez pointed out.

Rodriguez urged the concerned Comelec body to do its task of verifying the reported hacking.

“For now, we call on the Comelec Steering Committee and the Joint Congressional Oversight Committee (JCOC) to convene, initiate the probe and work to ensure the integrity of the systems and of the forthcoming elections,” Rodriguez said.

Comelec said it is verifying allegations in a Manila Bulletin report about the alleged data breach in its servers, but said that some details of the report cast doubt on whether hacking actually happened.

In 2016, a massive ‘Comeleaks’ breach exposed the personal data of around 55 million Filipino voters.
