IN a bid to further stem criminality and violence in the region, Cordillera Police Regional Office Director Brigadier General Mafelino A. Bazar has ordered his men to enforce all local ordinances in their areas “strictly”.

The official said he also had asked all his key officers to review the ordinances enacted by local government units (LGUs) in their jurisdiction, specifically those pertaining to curfew hours and drinking in public, so that they can be enforced without fear or favor.

Bazar said that the strict enforcement of the local ordinances would help address a wide range of issues concerning the peace and order situation of the different localities in the region.

In many cases, street brawls and rumbles were found to have been triggered by altercations between men drinking in public or minors defying curfew hours.

Citing data from the Cordillera Police Regional Operations Division from January to April this year, the official said they had recorded 9,295 violations of local ordinances in the whole region, of which 14 individuals were charged while 2,967 were fined according to their respective local ordinances.
