Basco airport cancels flights due to Typhoon Henry

ALL flights in Basco, Batanes were canceled due to the rains brought by Typhoon Henry, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) advisory.

CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said the situational report by CAAP Area Center 2 Manager Mary Sulyn Sagorsor, Basco Airport in Batanes is currently experiencing intermittent moderate to heavy rains and wind speeds of 14 knots, with a direction of 300 degrees and gustiness up to 25 knots.

Apolonio said upon securing the airport’s facility as part of its standard operating procedures, non-essential CAAP Basco employees were sent home after the provincial government ordered a work suspension.

Despite the cancellation of all flights, airport security remains on duty 24/7 at Basco Airport.

CAAP airport managers remain on “high alert” and are closely supervising their respective airports, while situation reports are also continuously monitored and consolidated by the CAAP Operations Center (OPCEN).
