Immunization

A timely call

PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. has called on local government authorities throughout the Philippines to conduct large-scale immunization campaigns.

The nationwide immunization drives ought to target the country’s schoolchildren to enable them to safely go back to school either in August or September.

Various quarters described the call as “timely” considering the rising number of coronavirus disease cases in some parts of the country, including Metropolitan Manila (MM).

Besides, President Marcos and Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla are now in isolation after contracting the highly-contagious disease, which originated from China.

In a message to governors and mayors last Friday, Marcos stressed the importance of a booster campaign rollout if we are to fully reopen the struggling domestic economy.

“And when the booster rollout becomes a success, we may be able to see if we can already lower down alert levels and make wearing of face masks optional,” the President said.

Like the rest of the Filipino people, we share the view of President Marcos that the booster will move us towards the reopening of “our society, our economy, or businesses.”

Certainly, the new Chief Executive from Ilocos Norte is on the right path in urging our local government authorities to spearhead the country’s vaccination campaign.

The more than 110 million Filipinos, particularly the ordinary and impoverished citizens, expect our government officials to deliver on their avowed pro-people agenda.

Thus, LGU officials should waste no time in conducting large-scale immunization drives in their respective localities.
