Do you ever look up into the night sky and wonder if humans are alone in the universe? Or do you look around at all of the mysteries that exist right in front of you and wonder how they came to be? If you’re searching for answers, you’ve come to the right place. History is full of scientific mysteries explained by aliens. After all, who else other than extraterrestrials could build the pyramids, hollow out the moon, and maybe squeeze our entire existence into one massive supercomputer? No one knows why the extraterrestrials behind scientific anomalies are building beautiful architecture and depositing elongated skulls below the Peruvian desert, but there are more than a few theories about their intentions.

No one knows if the aliens causing science mysteries are doing it to send us a message or if they’re just being jerks, but it’s hard to imagine anyone (especially an entire race of beings) going through so much trouble to tell the world they exist out of malicious intent. It’s likely that all of the scientific mysteries that extraterrestrials have had a hand in serve as small puzzle pieces in a greater problem that can only be solved when the human race is ready to interact with more advanced beings. Whether you’re a skeptic or you’re ready to climb down the rabbit hole, there are many interesting questions raised – and maybe even a few answers – in this collection of scientific anomalies that were probably made by aliens.

• What’s Up with These Weird Skulls?

We all know what regular skulls look like, right? If not, take a quick look in the mirror or Google “normal skull” and you should be up to speed. Throughout the 20th century, scientists have discovered a few different varieties of skulls that look nothing like what we’ve got bouncing around in our noggins, but the most interesting skulls were found buried under the Peruvian desert in 1928. Discovered by archeologist Julio Tello, the Paracas Skulls are close to 3,000 years old, and some of the largest elongated skulls ever found.

After being tested, instead of receiving information about how the skulls belong to humans and that we were really into cranial elongation way back when, scientists discovered that they have mitochondrial DNA “with mutations unknown in any human, primate, or animal known so far.” While these tests not only prove that the timeline for human migration is completely wrong, they also provide evidence for the possibility of extra terrestrials giving the human race a genetic bump.

• • The Universe Is a Matrix Invented by Aliens

People arguing about the possibilities of whether or not the universe was created by a vengeful God in the mood to torture innocent people may need to take a chill pill and start seriously looking into the possibility that the universe is actually a Matrix-like game, or computer system, created by aliens in order to play out various possibilities and strategies. British philosopher Nick Bostrom first floated this idea after seeing The Matrix, and insinuated that a race of far-evolved extraterrestrials could be behind our “digital imprisonment.” Admittedly, this theory sounds goofy. If there were scientific evidence backing it up it would be terrifying, but there’s not. Right?

Wrong. Rich Terrile, director of the Centre for Evolutionary Computation and Automated Design at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory believes that it’s possible that aliens (or possibly our future selves) have already reached a point when supercomputers “will have the ability to compute an entire human lifetime of 80 years – including every thought ever conceived during that lifetime – in the span of a month,” thus giving some credence to Bostrom’s theory.

• • Did Aliens Help Us Build Stonehenge?

One of the greatest mysteries of our time isn’t why McDonald’s french fries taste so good or how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop – it’s who built Stonehenge. Archeologists believe that the structure, which is made of a ring of massive standing stones, was built between 3,000 and 2,000 BCE and that it might be a burial ground. But that’s about all they know. When Stonehenge was erected humans hadn’t even invented the wheel yet, so how those dum-dums figured out how to stack obelisks on top of one another has baffled scientists and researchers for centuries. One theory (of which there are many) is that aliens passed down the knowledge for how to built such a structure as a way to jump-start our civilization. Or maybe they just built it themselves to show off.

• • No One Knows Why the Nazca Lines Exist

If you find yourself in southern Peru sometime soon, get yourself to the Nazca Desert and take in the majesty of the Nazca Lines, a series of ancient geoglyphs that were created between 500 BCE and 500 CE. Some people believe that they were made as a map for water flow and irrigation streams, but those people are missing the big picture. Many researchers believe that the lines in the Nazca Desert were created as a way to communicate with the aliens that landed and left, confusing the indigenous people and making them believe that they had to build an intricate series of lines in order to communicate with their “gods.” It’s also possible that the Nazca Lines are part of a code that’s linked to the Great Pyramid of Giza left by ancient aliens. Unfortunately, if this is the case, there’s no known cipher.

• • KIC 8462852: Alien Megastructure or God’s Christmas Light?

In 2010, researchers at Yale University discovered KIC 8462852, a star that was acting out of accordance with stars normally act. For instance, instead of shining with the same brightness, it would flicker drastically every few years, which isn’t a thing that stars do. After ruling out telescope and operator error, multiple scientists concluded that something big had to be blocking the star.

Astronomer Jason Wright, a Penn State University researcher, doesn’t want to say that it’s an alien megastructure doing the blocking, but he’s not sure what else to call it: “When [a colleague] showed me the data, I was fascinated by how crazy it looked. Aliens should always be the very last hypothesis you consider, but this looked like something you would expect an alien civilization to build.”

• • The Pyramids

Did you think you were going to get through a list of scientific mysteries that might be perpetrated by aliens without reading about one pyramid? Nice try. When it comes to these beautiful architectural masterpieces that exist throughout Africa, South America, and Europe, there are multiple explanations for how they came to exist. Obviously slave labor and technology that makes use of physics are a couple of answers that make sense, but that also ignores a few key theories that open a universe of possibilities.

Some armchair theorists believe that Egyptians couldn’t have built the pyramids due to their lack of mathematical knowledge and that alien interference is the only thing that makes sense. This theory feels kind of racist, but that’s what you get for peeling back the layers of conspiracy that surround ancient aliens. Other theorists believe that the pyramids were placed here as a way to harness energy from the earth using geographic geometry. It’s possible that the earth is a giant battery that’s being used to power a larger alien presence, or maybe the pyramids were placed here to help us tap into an energy source that’s all around us.

• • What’s Up With the Moon?

Sure, we’ve been to the moon. But have we really been to the moon? There have been multiple theories positing what extraterrestrials have to do with the big white orb that follows our every move, but so far the only answer science has given us is it might be a big rock that fell into our orbit. Snooze. One relatively new theory about the moon is that it was actually built by a race of ancient aliens to act as a secret base, or as a giant ship with unknowable capabilities.

This hypothesis was first introduced in 1970 by two Russian scientists named Michael Vasin and Alexander Shcherbakov who posited that the moon was a natural space body converted into an artificial structure by alien engineers who melted the original solid core, deposited the molten lava on the lunar surface, and created an inner lunar space protected by an artificial shell that we know as the moon’s surface. One of the major reasons for scientists believing that the moon is hollow is because of its calculated mean density of 3.3gm/cm3, compared with Earth’s 5.5 gm/cm3. It sounds crazy, but even NASA researchers have admitted that “[T]he data requires that the interior of the Moon is more like a hollow than a homogeneous sphere.”

• • Strange Noise

Beginning in at least 2008, people across the world began to hear a strange sound seemingly emitting from nowhere. It had the grate of metal sliding against metal, and the atonal shriek of a sixth-grade orchestra tuning their instruments, but what was it? One man, Aaron Taylor, who recorded a snippet of the sound in 2012, believes that there’s something supernatural or extraterrestrial about the sound, and says that he hasn’t been able to sleep since hearing the noises: “I’ve had vivid nightmares ever since I posted the very eerie strange sounds that has Missoula talking and looking towards the sky; awful, awful nightmares.”

One theory is that the sound is simply a natural noise that the earth makes, and NASA researchers are claiming that we would hear these sounds constantly if humans were able to tune into the Earth’s natural radio emissions. Even with this explanation, there are still people who believe that we’re receiving a message from extraterrestrials who are trying to wake humans up to the coming geomagnetic polar shift.
