A TOTAL of 150 female Philippine National Police (PNP) recruits, on Friday, took their oath of office in ceremonies presided over by PNP Deputy Chief for Administration, Lieutenant General Rhodel O. Sermonia.

The 150 all-female police recruits will be assigned to the Police-Community Affairs and Development Group (PCADG) after they finish a 6-month mandatory basic training at the National Police Training Institute in Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba City in Laguna.

According to PCADG Director Col. Patrick Joseph G. Allan, the 150 recruits will complete their unit’s variance for the rank of Patrolman/Patrolwoman according to the restructuring and restrengthening of the PCADG under its five-year development plan.

The female recruits will be assigned to Regional Police-Community Affairs and Development Units of the 17 police regional offices after completing the six-month Public Safety Basic Recruit Course and another six-month Public Safety Field Training Program.

On behalf of PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., Sermonia said the 150 future policewomen will help strengthen the police-community relations effort of the PNP and will serve as PCAD Operators based on their PCAD Master Plan “Tagapagtaguyod”.

The master plan was conceptualized to accomplish all PCAD programs, activities, and projects, and strengthen the PNP Information Development Operations, Public Information and Community Affairs and Development.

Allan described last Friday’s occasion as a “1st in the PNP history” in which all-female recruits took their oath of office in a National Support Unit as the PNP puts a high premium on women empowerment.

The PCADG director said they really value the relevance of women as effective community organizers and communicators as he thanked the PNP Recruitment and Selection Service for granting them the unfilled Attrition Quota based on the Unit’s push to hire personnel with standard scholastic backgrounds and skills.

The 150 female recruits are mostly holders of bachelor’s degrees in communication, language and linguistics, and information communications technology.

The PCADG is also seeking more personnel with excellent writing, broadcasting, and other multimedia-related skills.

“We are confident that this milestone being a first in the history of PNP NSUs will spell success in our PCR operation,” said Allan as he emphasized that the 150 recruits will help bolster their effort to win the “hearts and minds” of the people and help the police force’s in its fight against crime and terror.
