JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed the issuance of warrants of arrest for six individuals suspected of being involved in the disappearance of six cockfighting enthusiasts, known as “sabungeros” last year.

The Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) issued the warrants against the six persons.

They were charged with six counts of kidnapping and serious illegal detention under Article 267 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) for the alleged disappearance of John Claude Inonog, James E. Baccay, Marlon E. Baccay, Rondel F. Cristorum, Mark Joseph L. Velasco, and Rowel G. Gomez.

The victims were reportedly abducted on January 22, 2022, while en route to the Manila Arena from Tanay, Rizal.

In a statement, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said that “After a careful perusal of the case records, the panel of prosecutors from the Department of Justice found probable cause to indict [six individuals] for six counts of kidnapping and serious illegal detention under Article 267 of the Revised Penal Code.”

The DOJ further stated that “the information against these respondents will be filed before the Regional Trial Court of Manila City.”
