Van plows into Cabanatuan resto
CABANATUAN CITY – A customer was hurt when a freak accident occurred on early Friday morning at a well-known fast food chain after a Toyota van literally went “drive-thru” inside its dining area, destroying the glass panels, ceiling, and other parts of the building.
Police Information Chief Lt. Franklin Sindac said the accident happened at the McDonald’s branch along Maharlika Highway corner Burgos Avenue in Bgy. Sangitan West at 7:50 a.m. Friday.
Reports said the ill-fated van, a Toyota Innova, did not stop at the parking area and went straight inside the dining area after its driver allegedly “lost control” when its brakes failed.
Injured was Robert Rey Bonayog of Purok 1, Bgy. Padre Crisostomo, this city.
Investigation showed the driver accidentally stepped on the gas pedal, causing the vehicle to subsequently crash onto the dining area and hit a customer, who sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Police head OIC (Officer-in-Charge) Lt. Col. Edelmar Alviar said charges for reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries and damage to properties will be slapped against the driver.
