NABUA, Camarines Sur – Philippine Collective Media Corporation (PCMC) President Sofonias P. Gabonada, Jr., has signed a memorandum of agreement with Polytechnic State University of Bicol (PSUB) President Dr. Charlito P. Cadag to establish the country’s first higher education institutional-based radio station and digital TV through Favorite Music Radio (FMR) University FM to push more educational and informative programs under the new normal.
Under the MoA signed last Wednesday at the PSUB President’s Office through the Public Private Partnership, Gabonada said the PSUB will produce public information, education, and commercial/entertainment-based programs that will assist students and the community to become knowledgeable and obtain highly-relevant information.
Gabonada said the first in the country FMR University FM located in Bicol Region will also function as a laboratory for university students enrolled in AB Communications and Electronics Engineering courses while PSUB Digital TV will offer a channel for each of the state university’s colleges and will serve as an alternative platform for providing high-quality higher education.
Cadag said the radio station and digital television will be part of their response to the pandemic’s issues of shifting gears to traditional classroom education to broadcast-based learning using technological innovation.
The PSUB has invested P54 million in the FMR University FM and PSUB Digital Television.
The university’s radio and digital television stations will be self-sustaining via commercial advertising placement and other media mileage, and will not be dependent on the school’s maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE).
CHED Chairman Prospero “Popoy” De Vera III also urged other state universities and colleges (SUCs) to form a similar partnership that would aid in the delivery of high-quality higher education through the use of broadcast media.
Present at the signing were Gabonada, National Director for Technical Billy Danryll B. Dulatre, National Director for Creatives Louievic D. Loquiño, National Director for Programming Jeremy John Madroñal, Jan Michael Casiño, and Glyndale Maldo.
FMR Philippines has nationwide coverage through its provincial and affiliate stations in Makati City, Baguio City, Nabua, Partido CamSur, Albay, Tumauini Isabela, Tuguegarao, Tacloban, Ormoc, Catarman, Catbalogan, Calbayog, Borongan, Maasin Southern Leyte, Ilo-Ilo, Cebu City, Bacolod, Davao De Oro (Z Radio), DavNor, Iligan City (Friends Radio), Butuan, Camiguin, Dipolog, Zamboanga Sibugay, Davao City, and other stations nationwide that is set to be launched before the year ends.
