Guy1Guy2SEAN De Guzman is better known as a sexy actor who has taken off his clothes and did a lot of sizzling bedscenes in Vivamax movies. He now gets to do a socially relevant film about how the rich exploits the poor, “Fall Guy”, directed by the multi-awarded filmmaker Joel Lamangan.

The film was entered in film festivals abroad and Sean’s performance has won him two best actor awards. First was at the Chithiram International Film Festival in India and the second was at the Anatolian Film Awards in Turkey. How does he feel about it?

“It’s really great to bring honor to our country,” he says. “Ito ang pinakamahirap na ginawa kong movie kasi ang bibigat ng mga eksena, ang dami kong breakdown scenes and I was tortured by cops who’s forcing me to admit to a crime I didn’t commit. But worth it lahat ng hirap kasi I think this is also one of the best films I did.”

In the story, Sean plays Julius Sumpay who grew up in the slums of Manila. He serves as a caretaker in the ancestral home of the wealthy Garcia family, where his mother Lourdes (Shamaine Buencamino) also works as a housemaid.

Witnessing the lavish and frivolous lifestyle of his boss, Fonzy (Vance Larena), and his friends, Julius also yearns to be part of their world despite his mother’s constant reminder to avoid their company as they don’t belong to the same social class.

But where Fonzy goes, Julius also goes. He gets to drink with them at their party and make out with some girl who is definitely out of his league, somehow making him feel like he belongs to their circle. But in one fateful night, it’s very clear that he is not one of them.

Julius wakes up naked, beside the dead body of Jenie (Cloe Barreto). She was gang raped and died in the hands of Fonzy and his friends. Set up by the boys, Julius finds himself arrested for a crime he didn’t commit.

“Fall Guy” is a realistic portrayal of what goes on in the society where the rich use their power to get away with anything, while the wrongly accused poor souls suffer and struggle immensely to clear their name.

In the case of Julius, will anyone ever listen to his cry for justice and give it to him even as Jenie’s mother Beth (Glydel Mercado) cries for the same thing?

“Fall Guy” also stars Marco Gomez, Glydel Mercado, Tina Paner, Quinn Carrillo, Mark Cardona, Tiffany Grey, Hershie de Leon, Jim Pebanco, and more. Available for streaming on Vivamax on May 12, 2023.
