FERDINAND Alexander “Sandro” Marcos has thanked his uncle, House Majority Leader and Leyte 1st District Representative Martin G. Romualdez for mentoring him in Congress and helping him prepare for a possible full-time job as a member of the incoming 19th Congress.

Sandro, son of UniTeam presidential candidate former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., (BBM) acknowledged Romualdez’s guidance and the training that he directly received and acquired from the ranking House leader as he honed his skills in the Leyte solon’s office for 2 years in preparation for a future career in politics.

During his birthday celebration on March 8, Marcos personally conveyed his appreciation to Romualdez for training and for immersing him into the complicated legislative processes and its nitty-gritty, which he could use productively once elected as representative of the 1st District of Ilocos Norte.

“Nandito rin ang aking mentor kung saan ako nagsimula sa Kongreso, si Majority Leader Martin Romualdez. Lahat po ng natutunan ko sa Kongreso ay dahil sa kaniya,” the 28-year-old Marcos told his guests. “Ako po ay nagpapasalamat na nandito siya ngayon.”

Romualdez said Marcos is highly qualified and fit for the job, especially since he had trained under his office.

“Sandro Marcos is very much qualified and ready for the congressional job that he is aiming for. He has been trained and was very familiar with the legislative process and its nitty-gritty,” said Romualdez, first cousin of Bongbong Marcos.

“I should know because he spent 2 months working in my office doing his congressional training, with no less than myself supervising and overseeing him,” Romualdez said of Marcos.

The British-educated Marcos, who obtained his master’s degree in Development Studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science, is running for congressman in the 1st congressional district of Ilocos Norte in the May 2022 elections.

Earlier, Marcos or BBM, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer, declared that his son is ready and very qualified to become a member of the House of Representatives (HOR), a political transformation that he principally credited to Romualdez, who taught and immersed the younger Marcos into the legislative job and molded him as a future lawmaker.

The presidential candidate said Romualdez has mentored his son well on the daily grind at the HOR, including strategies that help expedite the passage of needed bills and other measures.

“Marami na siyang natutunan, sabi ko nga kung matuloy kang congressman very qualified ka na. Mas qualified ka doon sa mga ibang bagong pasok na walang pinagdaanan na ganyan,” the elder Marcos said.

Sandro is the eldest of 3 sons of former Sen. Marcos and Atty. Louise “Liza” Araneta Marcos.

He is the grandson of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. and former First Lady and Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Romualdez Marcos.
