SAF troopers top AFP-PNP Commando Challenge

MEMBERS of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) emerged as the grand champion in the elite Panthers’ Challenge after dominating the different skills and challenges designed by the Army’s Scout Ranger.

The PNP-SAF headed by Brigadier General Edgar Alan O. Okubo dominated the team competition participated in by 11 Special Operations Forces from the Armed Forces of the Philippines earning them commendations from PNP chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr.

Overall, they beat six teams from the Army’s First Scout Ranger Regiment and team from the Air Force’s Special Operations Wing, the Force Recon Marines, the Naval Special Operations Command, the AFP Light Reaction Regiment and the Special Forces (Airborne).

The 5-day Panther’s Challenge Competition which was held at the FSSR headquarters in Camp Tecson, San Miguel, Bulacan ended on Friday.

The PNP-SAF is the only police unit that fitted their skills with their counterparts from elite AFP units. On Day 1 of the competition, the PNP-SAF team immediately emerged as the Top 1 on the Confidence Course clocking the event at 13:49 seconds and leading their other rivals by more than five minutes.

The police and military commandos showcased their skills in the Confidence Course, Mission Briefing, Land Navigation, River Crossing with Knot-tying, Close-Quarter Battle with demolition, the Tactical Combat Casualty Care or TCCC, Radio Communication, Stress Test Firing and Rucksack March.

The participants will be feted during a formal awarding ceremony on November 25 with President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ R. Marcos Jr. as guest of honor and speaker.
