SFMR hopes PHL-UK relationship grows, deepens

SPEAKER Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez on Saturday sent his warmest congratulations to the newly crowned monarchs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, King Charles III and Queen Camila.

“Today (Saturday), we celebrate with the people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the rest of the world on the coronation of King Charles III and the Queen Consort, his wife, now Queen Camila,” said Speaker Romualdez, who is in the UK together with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

“We are deeply honored to be witnesses to an event that is a rare piece of world history, and we pray for a deeper and more meaningful relationship between the Philippines and the United Kingdom for years to come,” he added.

UK’s King Charles III crowning Saturday came eight months after he ascended to the throne, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September.

The ceremony was held at Westminster Abbey in London and officiated by the highest Church official in England, the Archbishop of Canterbury.

“As we watch with awe, delight and an enduring sense of optimism, we wish King Charles and Queen Camila the best of health and the best of love! May His and Her Majesty’s reign be guided by faith, love, integrity and equality, following in the footsteps of Queen Elizabeth, whose long and fruitful rule was described as ‘era-defining.’” Speaker Romualdez said.

“And may your reign also bring people together, provide prosperity to all of your subjects and inspire divine guidance to your rule. Congratulations to the new monarchs of the United Kingdom!” He said.

Speaker Romualdez joined the delegation of President Marcos, who arrived in the UK a day before the coronation.

They were welcomed by representatives of King Charles III and the Philippine Ambassador to the UK Teodoro “Teddy Boy” Locsin Jr.

The President took the opportunity to inspect the London Gatwick Airport and gather ideas for the improvement of the Philippines’ own airports and its system of tourist arrivals.

President Marcos also met with G. Bayo Ogunlesi, chairman of US-based Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), a company that seeks to invest in the Philippines in the areas of energy, transportation and digital infrastructure.
