Rep. Vergara cites need to sustain e-Gov PH Super App
A MEMBER of the House of Representatives is urging President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to safeguard the achievements of the outgoing leadership of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) as he selects the agency’s next chief.
Nueva Ecija Rep. Ria Vergara, a senior member House Committee on Information and Communications Technology, has cited the e-Gov PH Super App as among the IT initiatives that must not be disrupted by the ongoing DICT reorganization.
Vergara underscored the need to sustain the eGov PH Super App, a groundbreaking digital platform launched in 2023 by the DICT’s e-Government Group, led by Undersecretary David Almirol.
“The launch of the e-GOV PH Super App marked a significant step forward in modernizing government services, offering paperless, efficient and convenient way for Filipinos to access essential services,” Vergara stressed.
The lady lawmaker said the next DICT secretary must guarantee the app’s success by pursuing the next steps in ensuring the readiness of the country’s IT infrastructure.
“To ensure inclusivity, the government must provide stable, secure and affordable internet ac cess for all Filipinos. DICT can start by offering free internet services in government offices and public areas, ensuring that the marginalized sectors aren’t left behind,” she added.
Almirol’s team developed the app that consolidates various government services into a single platform, eliminating the need for users to visit multiple websites or physical offices. This digital transformation has led to faster processing timers and improved efficiency across numerous agencies.
Merely two years after it was launched, the DICT already reported that around 30 national government agencies have bee integrated into the platform with efforts underway to onboard more.
According to Vergara said digital initiatives such as the eGov PH Super App should be protected by government by ensuring continuity and by maintaining stable leadership at DICT.
She stressed that the app should be considered a legacy project of the Marcos administration and should not be disturbed by leadership changes at the DICT.
“The Marcos administration needs to develop a clear transition plan, including knowledge transfer for ongoing projects. At the same time, it must appoint capable leaders committed to digital transformation,” Vergara said.
