THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) teams have served 4,276 patients during the Undas celebration across the country.

The teams have been deployed since October 27 to anticipate the medical emergency needs of people traveling during the long weekend to be with family during the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day observance.

Eight out of the 4,276 patients were transported to medical facilities. Major cases included dizziness, body weakness, vomiting, possible fractured leg, seizure and contusion on the forehead.

Minor cases consist of dizziness, lower back pain, abrasion, sprained ankle, stomach pain, burn on hand, hypoglycemia, body weakness, high blood pressure, laceration and headache.

“Our mission at the Red Cross is to save lives. Our EMS teams are always ready to respond to medical emergencies.

The deployment of our EMS teams is part of our commitment to promoting a culture of safety in the country. I commend our EMS unit for a job well done,” said PRC Chairman and CEO Richard “Dick” Gordon.

A total of 1,808 personnel were deployed to operate 303 first aid stations, 80 ambulance units and seven emergency vehicles.

Foot patrol units and roving units consisting of EMS personnel were also deployed within cemeteries. The PRC also set up 38 welfare desks.

“We are happy to provide EMS to our fellow Filipinos. At the same time, we encourage every Filipino family, homeowners’ association, condominium corporation and other groups to train in first aid, because first aid is crucial in increasing a patient’s survival during a medical emergency,” said PRC Secretary-General Dr. Gwen Pang.
