Quiapo vicar says we need a ‘Godly’ leader
EVERY Sunday, I make it a point to hear mass online.
My favorite priest is Fr. Douglas Badong, parochial vicar of the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene, more popularly known as the Quiapo Church. It’s because he often injects humor in his homily and uses words that millennials would be able to relate to easily.
He is so in touch with reality and uses real life situations to get his message across.
These past few weeks, he would end his mass celebration with a call for all Filipinos to vote wisely and use godliness as a barometer for choosing the next President of the country.
On one side of the screen, the pictures of all the presidentiables are flashed. Fr. Badong would then tell the viewers and all those present in the Church to make sure that when they vote, they would put into high consideration who among the candidates is “ maka-Diyos.”
Hastily, he would add that the candidate chosen must be one who is truly a believer and not one who mocks God, citing the importance of having a leader who is spiritual and who truly believes that there is a “Higher Being.”
I cannot agree more. If there is anything that this pandemic has taught us, it is to know and realize that we can rely on God and God alone for our day-to-day existence and that none of us has a hold our our future.
While the pandemic brought out the worst in some, it, on the other hand, has also taught us to become more prayerful and to be thankful for each day that we get to wake up and do something good to others as a means of paying it forward.
