A PARTY-LIST solon slammed the energy sector for failing to resolve the energy crisis.

Party-list Representative France Castro particularly criticized the actions of power generators amidst the ongoing energy crisis.

The outages has a detrimental impact on consumers due to increased power rates caused by the failure to operate power plants during the extreme heat, Castro emphasized.

The lady solon stressed that the recurring issue of power generators exploiting the situation to raise rates, by the dubious simultaneous forced outages of 30 power plants, saying the current crisis mirroring the events of 2013.

She pointed out the Supreme Court’s decision was a boon for power generators, but ultimately harms consumers.

“The recent red and yellow power alerts in the country should not be taken lightly. The Department of Energy (DOE) must be held accountable, and a thorough investigation should be conducted to shed light on this matter,” Castro demanded.

Moreover, Castro pushed for legislation that would shift the burden of higher power rates onto generation companies during plant failures.

She stressed the urgency of enacting measures that prioritize consumer protection and prevent the exploitation of power shortages for profit.

As the energy crisis persists and power supply remains unstable, Castro urged the government to prioritize the welfare of the Filipino people and implement policies that safeguard consumers from unjust practices by power generators.

“We call on the government to address the root causes of the energy crisis and protect the rights of consumers. The interests of the people should always come first,” she concluded.

In a related story, Bayan Muna party-list said there should “no longer be slapped on the wrist treatment but the Energy Regulatory Commission should now seriously investigate and make accountable” those responsible why more than 40 power plants remained offline until now prompting the issuance of red and yellow alerts in Luzon and Visayas for five consecutive days.
