PHILIPPINE National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group agents arrested the suspected hired gun wanted for the failed assassination of Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr. that left three of his policemen-escorts and civilian aide dead in Marawi City last Friday.

PNP-CIDG director Major General Romeo M. Caramat Jr. said that the suspect identified as Karis Tomao was arrested based on the warrant of arrest for multiple murder, frustrated murder and attempted murder issued by Judge Samina Macabando-Usman of the Marawi City Regional Trial Court Branch 8 last July 20.

In a report to PNP chief General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr., the official said that members of the CIDG Lanao del Sur Provincial Field Unit, with the assistance of other PNP operating units, tracked down the suspect in his hiding place in Barangay Bangco in Marawi City.

Tomao is believed to be among the gunmen who ambushed the convoy of Gov. Adiong, leaving three policemen and one civilian dead and the official wounded.

Another main suspect in the Adiong ambush, identified as Oscar Gandawali, was killed in a gunbattle with PNP-CIDG officers weeks after the deadly ambush.
