THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is now preparing to file formal charges against some unscrupulous employees involved in the unauthorized deductions of workers’ salaries.

MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes will lead the filing of the formal complaint.

Last week, the agency discovered the scheme allegedly perpetrated by some employees under the Payroll Division.

These unscrupulous personnel were able to manipulate the computerized payroll system, unlawfully took small amounts from the salaries of targeted employees, and diverted those amounts to their own accounts.

Immediately upon its discovery, a complaint was filed by Atty. Artes.

MMDA General Manager Procopio Lipana arrested the employees allegedly involved and underwent inquest proceedings.

The agency conducted further investigations and found a grand conspiracy with the alleged involvement of other employees.

Formal complaints against these employees are being prepared and a strong case build-up is being done for the filing of non-bailable charges against the perpetrators.

They were also placed under preventive suspension, and their computers were also secured to be used as evidence.

Meanwhile, an internal audit and investigation are currently ongoing, and safety measures are already implemented to prevent an unfortunate incident like this from happening again.

The MMDA assured that it will delve deeper into the matter and assured that all responsible will be prosecuted and punished accordingly.
