PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Officer-in-Charge, Lieutenant General Vicente D. Danao Jr. on Monday said they will fully support President-elect Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.’s strong commitment to protect human rights in the country specifically as they continue their all-out war versus drugs, criminality, terror and corruption.

“In response to latest pronouncements of President-elect Ferdinand R Marcos Jr. over the issue of human rights in the anti-drug campaign, the PNP welcomes the expression of strong commitment of the Marcos administration to continue the national campaign against illegal drugs within the framework of the law and with utmost respect for human rights, and with the focus on rehabilitation and socio-economic development,” said the top cop.

According to Lt. Gen. Danao, the PNP fundamental doctrine augurs well with the human rights policy of the incoming Marcos administration in every aspect of police systems and procedures as expressed in his recent talks with representatives of foreign diplomatic missions.

“This policy of the incoming administration blends well with the reorientation of the PNP to the demand reduction strategy in the national anti-illegal drugs campaign with greater emphasis on restorative and preventive approaches against drug abuse,” he said.

“Nonetheless, the PNP is equally committed to further enhance police operations against syndicated operations of drug traffickers that are behind the proliferation of illegal drugs in the country through intelligence-driven police operations, and better cooperation with counterpart foreign police agencies and international organizations,” Lt. Gen. Danao added.
