THE Philippines will bring the disaster risk reduction and resilience topic to the Asia Pacific when it hosts the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) in October 2024.

The bringing of the topic to Manila was assured as the Philippines reiterated its commitment to contribute to global disaster risk reduction efforts, including through continued strong partnership with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).

During the participation of Permanent Representative Carlos D. Sorreta in the UNDRR Donor Meeting held recently, he recalled the Philippines’ support for the UNDRR the past year.

He cited the country’s voluntary financial contributions to the organization, as well as separate contributions to the Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction and the Mid-term Review of the Sendai Framework.

Sorreta recognized the role of the UNDRR in encouraging and facilitating cooperation among governments and stakeholders.

“We believe there is an urgency to implement the Sendai Framework and to build risk resilience especially in hazard-prone and climate change vulnerable countries such as the Philippines, and the UNDRR plays a key role in this regard,” he stated.

The Philippines has been a consistent donor and supporter of the UNDRR.
