PETRON HIKES LPG PRICE
GIANT oil firm Petron Corporation tacked on a 30-centavo increase per kilogram on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) effective yesterday.
The Department of Energy (DOE), a government agency that regulates, supervises, and monitors the LPG industry said since a regular LPG cylinder weighs 11 kilos, a P0.30 increase would translate to a P3.30-markdown for every cooking gas tank.
Solane-branded LPG, formerly Shellane, also announced an increase of its cooking gas products by P0.27 centavos per kilogram, inclusive of value added tax (VAT), which took effect at 6:01 a.m. yesterday, which is equivalent to P2.97 for 11-kilograms of LPG gas cylinder.
Other independent retailers from the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers Association (LPGMA) have yet to announce an adjustment but there are indications that they would likely follow suit.
However, the two oil firms clarified that the adjustment would only take effect for the meantime outside the calamity areas that were hardest hit by heavy rains and flooding, including Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
