THE Philippine Embassy in Bangkok has not received any report that Filipinos were among the casualties or injured in a mass shooting in Thailand on Thursday.

In a statement, the Philippines Embassy in Bangkok said it is coordinating with Thai authorities to check if there is a Filipino among the 37 people who died, 24 of whom are children, in a mass killing at a daycare in the country’s northern Nong Bua Lamphu province.

“The Embassy is working with Thai authorities and the Filipino community in Thailand to ascertain if any Filipino is among the casualties or injured,” it said in a statement.

Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Millicent Cruz-Paredes said the Embassy is ready to extend the necessary assistance to any affected Filipinos.

“The Philippine Embassy expresses heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the people and government of the Kingdom of Thailand for the injured and lost of lives in the shooting tragedy earlier today in [Nong Bua] Lamphu province,” the statement said.

“We are shocked and saddened by the heartbreaking event, and we are one with the Thai people in their grief as they face the painful aftermath of this tragedy,” it added.

The attack was committed by former police identified as “Panya Kamrap”, who was dismissed from the service this year due to drug-related offenses.

The assailant later shot his wife and child at home before killing himself.
