Only ‘transition’ teams from both camps to meet

THERE will be no personal or even virtual meetings between Vice President Leni Robredo and Vice President-elect Sara Duterte on a smooth and orderly transition of power, the latter’s spokesperson said.

Liloan, Cebu Mayor Christina Frasco, spokesperson for Duterte, said only the teams of both camps are scheduled to meet virtually based on the May 27, 2022, letter of Duterte to Robredo.

“The initial meeting sought will be between the teams, and not personally between the outgoing Vice President and the incoming Vice President,” Frasco said.

Frasco said Duterte communicated formally to Robredo’s office because of the importance of ensuring an orderly transfer of power in the vice presidency.

“It is the intention of Vice President-elect Sara Duterte to undertake as smooth and orderly a transition as possible,” Frasco said.

Duterte had scheduled an early inauguration on June 19 or 11 days earlier than the usual June 30.

“In relation to our statement that Vice President-elect Sara Duterte has formally communicated with the Office of the Vice President for purposes of transition, VP-elect Sara sent a letter dated 27 May 2022 addressed to Vice President Leni Robredo requesting an initial virtual meeting between the members of their respective teams to discuss protocols, policies, precedents and other matters concerning the Office of the Vice President,” Frasco said.
