CABANATUAN CITY – The National Irrigation Administration-Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation Systems (NIA-UPRIIS) has partnered with the Department of Education of Nueva Ecija in the promotion of irrigation in order to strengthen the foundation of knowledge transfer to the younger generation about its importance in the field of agriculture.

NIA-UPRIIS head Engr. Rosalinda B. Bote said this program to showcase irrigation forms part of the agency’s information drive as well as its socio-corporate responsibility as per directives of NIA Chief Ricardo R. Visaya that was implemented in 2020.

“This year it has expanded and reached out to students under Schools Division Office (SDO) of Nueva Ecija,” said Bote.

“This linkage with the DepEd is a directive of the NIA top management, primarily in the promotion of irrigation to showcase the agency’s efforts in irrigation development and to create awareness among students about the importance of irrigated agriculture,” added Bote.

As part of the agency’s socio-corporate responsibility, Bote said she and Division 3 chief Engr. Elenita L. Toquero donated boxes of bond paper, ink and other school supplies to the SDO of Nueva Ecija headed by Schools Supt. Jessie D. Ferrer.

As per their memorandum of agreement for information and education, some 10 elementary schools under Division 3’s jurisdiction were selected as the program beneficiaries amid the pandemic, said Toquero.

She identified the 10 schools as the Dr. Oliveros Elementary School (ES), Esing T. Angeles ES, Pepito B. Bernardo Memorial School, Isla ES, G. Villegas MS, Sto. Rosario ES, Dr. Sancho Manubay ES, Rajal Centro ES, San Pedro ES and Pilang ES.

For his part, Ferrer thanked the NIA-UPRIIS, saying: “Whenever I heard NIA, I think about water, as water symbolizes life. NIA adds life to our SDO because of all the help and donations that were given to us for our students especially now that we are battling the pandemic.”
