THE National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) celebrated Valentine’s Day 2023 with active sports events and dance competition in partnership with the Public Safety Savings and Loan Association, Inc. (PSSLAI) on Tuesday at Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City.

NCRPO Regional Director P/MGen. Jonnel Estomo said Ms. Mirasol Flores, Special Action Force (SAF) Audit Team Leader served as guest of honor and speaker in the event which was anchored on BIDA Program of Secretary Atty Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, Jr of DILG and PNP KASIMBAYANAN (Kapulisan Simbahan at Pamayanan), with a theme “BIDA sa Sayaw at Larong Pinoy sa Araw ng mga Puso”.

The whole day was elated by various original Filipino native games or “larong Pinoy” like shiatong, slingshot, tug of war, astronaut walk, patintero and sack race participated by NCRPO personnel, church leaders, youth sectors, force multipliers and teams fro PSSLAI.

Behind the propagation of BIDA Program which indulges sports as one of the diversionary strategies in demand reduction of illegal drugs especially in youth sectors, the noblest intention of the activity is to revive a long-lost cultural heritage and treasure of the Filipinos – the native “Larong Pinoy” which was altered by the ‘millennials’ in the introduction of internet games and modern technologies.

The PNP KASIMBAYANAN also took a milestone once again on its cruise when its integral components, the police, church and community were united for this cause.

Later at lunch, a boodle fight was held to celebrate unity, and camaraderie among the participants.

In the afternoon event, a dance competition was held and themed “NCRPO Di Mapipigilan Dance Competition” held at the Hinirang Hall.

On the conclusion of the events, R4 ranked 1st place in shatong; R6 in slingshot; RHSU in tug of war; R3 in the astronaut walk; command group in patintero, and R3 in sack race event while R5, under the leadership of P/Col. Romy Palgue, bagged a championship trophy in the dance challenge.

Aside from cash prizes, Gen. Estomo and his wife, Dra. Lorena G Estomo, also awarded beef meat, “pansit”, live chickens and goats to the top performers of the day.

“I am glad that somehow, we were able to find time to celebrate as one NCRPO family together with our dependents, PSSLAI, other stakeholders, church leaders and the community represented by youth sectors and force multipliers. We hope that this event further strengthens our unity to go against illegal drugs, criminality, and terrorism. Congratulations to the winners, but in our own right, togetherness made us all winners. Spread the love, and happy Valentine’s Day,” MGen. Estomo said in his speech. ER
