POLICE arrested a consultant of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and his cohort who tried to extort money from a woman in exchange for the release of two Chinese nationals from their custody in an entrapment operation Sunday evening in Pasay City.

Southern Police District (SPD) Acting District Director P/Col. Kirby John Brion Kraft said the suspects, an NBI consultant and his male driver, tried to “intervene” with the police operation.

The entrapment operation was launched beside a fast food chain at the corner of Gil Puyat, and Taft Avenues in Pasay City at around 8:30 p.m. following a complaint filed by a 25-year-old woman who alleged that she was instructed by the NBI consultant to produce P300,000 in exchange for the release of two Chinese nationals who were rescued by NBI last September 16 at Sta. Lucia BPO Building in Pasig City.

Wasting no time, joint elements of District Special Operation Unit (DSOU) elements of SPD and the Regional Intelligence Division of NCRPO conducted the entrapment operation resulting in the arrest of the suspect and his driver, who is now facing charges of “obstruction of justice” for trying to intervene with the police operation.

Police recovered from the suspect the marked P3,000 and P247,000 boodle money and the Yamaya NMAX motorcycle he used in his illegal activity.

“We are still investigating. We have to validate kung sino talaga itong tao na ito. Despite na may nakuha tayong NBI link sa kanya but that is still subject for validation,” Kraft said.
