THE government has decreed another two-day nationwide coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination campaign as part of all-out efforts to achieve “herd immunity.”

Set for February 10-11, the 3rd National Vax Drive is ample proof that the outgoing Duterte administration is determined to ensure the health and safety of the Filipino people.

The six-year presidency of the tough-talking Chief Executive from impoverished but natural resources-rich Mindanao is set to end at 12 noon on June 30, 2022.

To achieve “herd or community immunity,” the government ought to vaccinate at least 70 percent of the country’s more than 110 million population.

Thus, it is important to ramp up the inoculation of the country’s senior citizens and persons with comorbidities, according to Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje.

Cabotaje is chief of the National Vaccination Operations Center of the Department of Health (DOH).

The government announced the holding of the February 10-11 vax drive as Metropolitan Manila was back on the list of regions with the most number of new COVID-19 cases.

With 967 cases, the National Capital Region was followed by Western Visayas with 782, and the Davao Region with 753.

Thus, there’s that urgent need to vaccinate all those eligible to be inoculated, including children.

Iba na ‘yong bakunado habang nandiyan pa rin ang nakakatakot at nakakamatay na COVID-19.
