A NOTORIOUS drug pusher who was arrested in a buy-bust operation last month in Taguig City turned out to be a member of the dreaded Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) involved in the 2002 Jehovah’s Witness kidnapping and the Lamitan Siege.

Southern Police District (SPD) Director P/BGen. Jimili Macaraeg said Fahad Dumayag, alias “Abu Cola”, 31, yielded 12 grams of shabu worth P81,600, an M203 grenade, and a rifle grenade when he was arrested by elements of SPD District Drug Enforcement Unit (DDEU) on January 28 during a drug sting operation in Taguig City.

While in custody, one of the victims, a woman whose name was withheld for security reasons, positively identified Abu Cola as a member of ASG under Espilon Hapilon, Jamiri, and Undanan who were involved in the kidnapping of members of Jehovah’s Witness and Lamitan Siege wherein they took over a hospital and a Catholic Church on June 2001.

A confidential informant also confirmed the revelation of the victim prompting Dumayag to admit that he was a member of Aby Sayyaf Group and claimed that he was a follower and fanatic of the extremist group.

Meanwhile, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director PMGen. Vicente Danao, Jr. lauded the cooperation between police and military in the identification of alias Abu Cola.

“Sa ating patuloy na pakikipag-ugnayan sa iba’t-ibang law enforcement agencies ay ating madarakip ang mga terorista na naghahanap ng kanlungan sa ating nasasakupan. Makakaasa kayo na hindi matatapos kay alyas Abu Cola ang operasyon kontra sa mga teroristang naghahangad na sirain ang ating payapang komunidad,” Macaraeg said.
