MUSLIM persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) recently marked the occasion of Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, within the confines of the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP) in Albuyog town.

Eid al-Adha, the second and most significant of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam, pays homage to the act of obedience demonstrated by Abraham, who was willing to sacrifice his son, Ismail, in accordance with God’s command.

A total of 14 PDLs from the Maximum and Medium Security Camps, along with their visiting Imam Rene Royce Albert “Abdul Rashid” Reyes, participated in the festivities held at the LRP. The presence of Imam Reyes added a spiritual touch to the event.

Following the worship and prayers, the Muslim PDLs had the opportunity to partake in meals generously donated by their Imam.

This communal dining experience holds great significance during the celebration of Eid al-Adha, symbolizing the unity and brotherhood of the Muslim community, as well as marking the end of their fasting period prior to the festivities.

The event at the Leyte Regional Prison served as a reminder of the resilience and faith of the Muslim PDLs, who found solace and camaraderie in coming together to celebrate Eid al-Adha despite the constraints of their confinement.#
