THE Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Parade of Stars 2022 was well-received by fans who waited in line along the 7.4 km route in Quezon City to glimpse their favorite stars atop their vibrantly decorated floats on Wednesday afternoon, December 21, 2022.

MMDA Acting Chairman and concurrent MMFF Overall Chairman Atty. Romando Artes, with Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, and MMDA General Manager Procopio Lipana, led the opening ceremony and hit the gong, signaling the start of the parade.

“Maraming, maraming salamat po sa pagpunta ninyo dito sa parada ng mga artista. Sana po kung ano ang init ng pagpunta ninyo dito ay ganoon din po ang gawin natin at panoorin po natin ang lahat ng kalahok sa Metro Manila Film Festival 2022,” Artes, addressing the enthusiastic crowd at the Mabuhay Rotonda.

The film industry, according to Artes, was among those most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. “This year is the resurgence of the Filipino film industry as we are easing out restrictions in cinemas.”

The parade traveled through Quezon Avenue until reaching the Quezon Memorial Circle, where the main event took place. MMFF celebrities waved while their floats passed as the crowd yelled and cheered.

The parade featured floats carrying celebrities from this year’s eight official movie entries.

The 48th MMFF, with the theme “Balik Saya,” will begin on December 25 and run through January 7, 2023, with all of the chosen eight films being screened in theaters nationwide.

The official eight entries to the MMFF 2022 are: “Deleter” by Viva Communications, Inc.; “Family Matters” by Cineko Productions, Inc.; “Mamasapano: Now It Can Be Told” by Borracho Film Production; “My Father, Myself” by 3:16 Media Network and Mentorque Productions; “Nanahimik ang Gabi” by Rein Entertainment Productions; “Partners in Crime” by ABS-CBN Film Productions; “Labyu with an Accent” by ABS-CBN Film Productions; and “My Teacher” by TEN17P.

On December 27, the eight movie entries will compete for the festival awards, which will be presented during the “Gabi ng Parangal,” to be held at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City.
