CABANATUAN CITY — Nueva Ecija has a new acting provincial police director in the person of Col. Jess Mendez.

Mendez, who came from the Office of the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management, assumed his new post after being sworn-in at Camp Olivas, Pampanga on Sunday.

He replaced outgoing PD Col. Rhoderick Campo, whose tour of duty started August 14last year, and served for four months and 26 days in Nueva Ecija.

Mendez’s assumption as new acting PD came amid heightened security preparations being conducted by the PNP, one of which was the reshuffling of PDs and chiefs of police nationwide, to ensure the conduct of a peaceful and orderly national and local elections this May 9 polls.

His taking over the NEPPO command ended weeks of speculation as to who would finally replace Campo after Gov. Aurelio Umali reportedly earlier sought for his replacement.

Earlier, it was rumored that a certain Colonel Uy would takeover the PD post. After which, Mendez’s name was floated to be Campo’s replacement before the Christmas holidays.

However, another name cropped up as former PD Jaime Santos, who was replaced by Campo, was also rumored to re-assume his previous post, but it did not materialize.

It was learned that Mendez finally bagged the NE top cop post after previously failing to get the position more than a year ago.
