CALOOCAN City Mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan personally visited on Friday more than 80 families who were among those who lost their homes in a fire that razed more than 70 houses in Barangay 8.

Mayor Oca, together with Councilor Obet Samson, distributed financial assistance, food packs, sleeping kits, and hygiene kits to around 84 families who were temporarily sheltered at the Sugpo Covered Court.

The mayor also instructed the City Health Office to send a medical team to check on the health and welfare of affected residents.

“Ang Caloocan City Social Welfare and Development Department ay patuloy pong ipagkakaloob ang pagkalinga sa mga nasunugan sa pamamagitan ng pamamahagi ng hot meals at sleeping kits sa mga pamilyang pansamantalang naninirahan dito sa Sugpo Court,” Mayor Oca said.

Initial report reaching the office of the Caloocan mayor showed that around 120 families were affected by the fire that hit the residential area along Sarimburaw St., Brgy 8 at around 6:24 p.m. on Wednesday.

The fire was allegedly caused by unattended cooking and immediately spread to neighboring houses mostly made up of light materials before it was declared fire out at around 9 p.m.
