PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will address the state leaders that will be attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) if his schedule allows him to travel to New York in September.

Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez said, “President Marcos will be coming in for the General Assembly which starts sometime around September 20-21.”

The 77th session of the UNGA will open on September 13 and the first day of the high-level general debate will be on the 20th.

“A lot of people are very interested to hear that, to see him, to meet him. Even before the elections, I told him that I hope that one of the first trips that you will have to the western world would be to the UN,” the ambassador said.

Romualdez added, “I think that he sees that as a valuable reason for being at the United Nations that he will speak at the UN. A lot of heads of state up there for sure.”

Meanwhile, Romualdez hoped to arrange a bilateral meeting between US President Joe Biden and Marcos Jr. in Washington D.C. before November this year.

“’Yung bilateral we have not yet gotten there kasi ako, personally, I would like to see President Marcos go to Washington D.C. for a meeting with President Biden and hopefully we can do that sometime before the end of the year, before November kung puwede,” the Philippines’ top envoy to the US said.

He explained that both leaders would have to look at the right timing because the meeting will depend on the schedule of both presidents but the invitation is open-ended.
