SPORTS ON Air welcomes the new year with another blockbuster episode featuring Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner Willie Marcial on Thursday, Jan. 19.

Marcial, who was appointed as the 10th commissioner of Asia’s first play-for-pay league in 2018, will talk about the highly-successful PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals between eventual champion Barangay Ginebra and guest foreign team Bay Area, and the coming PBA Governors; Cup, which kicks off this Sunday, Jan. 22

Marcia will talk about the record-breaking attendance during the deciding Game 7 between the Kings and the Dragons, which attracted a banner crowd of 54,589 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan last Sunday.

Thats a lot more than the previous record attendance of 54,086 for the Game 7 showdown between Ginebra and Meralco in the 2017 Governors’ Cup also held at the world’s largest indoor stadium in Bulacan.

The 61-year Marcial, who first joined the PBA in 1983, will also give an update on the PBA Governors Cup, which opens this Sunday with an explosive doubleheader pitting Meralco against Rain or Shine and NorthPort against Converge at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Marcial is also expected to talk about the PBA’s support to the Gilas Pilipinas and the 2023 FIBA World Cup scheduled Aug. 25-Sept. 10, as well as the recent naturalization of PBA Best Import awardee Justin Brownlee.
