Maranan, Fajardo named new QCPD director, PNP-PIO chief
PHILIPPINE National Police Chief, General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. has designated Brigadier Gen. Redrico A. Maranan as the new Quezon City Police District director following the resignation of Brig. Gen. Nicolas D. Torre III.
Maranan, a bemedaled member of PNP Academy ‘Patnubay’ Class of 1995 will be replaced as PNP Public Information Office (PNP-PIO) chief by concurrent PNP spokesperson Colonel Jean S. Fajardo of PNPA ‘Kaagapay’ Class of 1996.
Designated as PNP-PIO chief and spokesman in October 2022, Brig. Gen. Maranan is no stranger to the QCPD since he used to be a member of its Command Group. He was the QCPD Deputy District for Operations before being named to his erstwhile post by then PNP chief, now retired Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr.
He became the 2nd PNP-PIO chief to head the QCPD after George L. Aliño, a retired general from the Philippine Military Academy Class 1972.
Brig. Gen. Maranan also used to be a Pangasinan Police Provincial Office director. A well-rounded officer, Brig. Gen. Maranan who is also known for his ‘soft heart for the poor’ will bring his wealth of experience to the QCPD, also known as Q.C.’s Finest.
On the other hand, Col. Fajardo will make history as the first female officer from the PNPA to become a chief of the PNP-PIO, a prestigious position which has produced four top cops, former PNP chiefs, Generals Arturo C. Lomibao, Nicanor A. Bartolome and Dionardo B. Carlos and former PNP Officer-in-Charge, Gen. Leonardo A. Espina.
Fajardo, the first female member of PNPA Class 1996, will become a police 1-star general with her new position. Also, a lawyer, Col. Fajardo was designated as PNP spokesperson in January 2022 by then PNP chief, Gen. Carlos.
She finished her law degree at the Jose Rizal University’s College of Law and passed the Bar in 2009. Fajardo is a reliable former officer of the now-defunct PNP Anti-Narcotics Group who once served as the PNP Drug Enforcement Group’s Deputy Director for Operations.
She was also a former director of the Pampanga Police Provincial Office and used to be a chief of the Regional Intelligence Division of the Police Regional Office 3 in Central Luzon.
