LAND Transportation Office-National Capital Region (LTO-NCR) Acting Assistant Regional Director Hanzley Lim said the cases against former policeman Wilfredo Gonzales in connection with the viral road rage video were already submitted for resolution.

Lim said Gonzales did not appear at the hearing scheduled last Thursday and was instead represented by his son who surrendered the driver’s license of his father who was initially slapped with a 90-day license suspension.

“Mr. Gonzales did not submit an affidavit so we take it as a waiver on his part for us to decide on the matter based on the pieces of evidence we have,” said Lim.

A Show Cause Order (SCO) was earlier issued against Gonzales to explain why he should not be penalized for four violations under the Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, which include reckless driving, obstruction of traffic, and improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

The highest penalty for these violations is permanent revocation of his driver’s license.

Meanwhile, a motorcycle rider who was seen in a viral video being pinned down to the ground by a police officer following their heated altercation surrendered to the police on Thursday evening.

Southern Police District (SPD) Director P/BGen. Roderick Mariano announced the voluntary surrender of Angelito Rencio, 48, at the Makati Police Station at 7:48 p.m. after learning that he was charged with violation of R.A 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, Art. 177or Usurpation of Authority, and Art. 151 or Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority of the Revised Penal Code.

The charges filed against Rencio stemmed from the investigation conducted by operatives of SPD and Makati City Police to an incident recorded in a viral video showing P/SSgt. Marsan Dolipas of Pasay Police Station pinning to the ground a motorcycle rider, later identified as Rencio, for cursing the police officer and showing a gun tucked in his waist following their heated argument over a traffic altercation.

A responding barangay patrol brought them to the Makati Police Sub-Station 3 where Rencio surrendered his .9mm cal, pistol and identified himself as a member of ISAFP before asking the desk officer to allow him to get the pertinent documents in his house in Paranaque City will prove his claim but he never returned when the desk officer allowed him to go home.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director P/BGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr. upon learning the police negligence ordered the relief of Makati Police Sub-Station 3 desk officer P/SSgt. Reynald Matabang and his superior, P/Capt. Edison Mabaet, the station commander, for command responsibility pending the filing of an administrative case against them. Jun Legaspi and Edd Reyes
