Amid ongoing removal of crash-landed KAL plane

THE Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has partially resumed operations due to a crash-landed Korean Air (KAL) plane and overshot a runway, aviation authorities announced.

In an official statement issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), MCIA has been allowed to partially open flights from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., effective October 25 until November 8, 2022.

CAAP said the “sunrise to sunset” operations for domestic and international flights can handle all aircraft types.

A “notice to airmen” (NOTAM) has also been released by CAAP on October 25, declaring the partial operability of the airport under a day “visual meteorological conditions” (VMC) or conditions wherein pilots have sufficient visibility, as well as the airport runway’s allowed temporary distances.

CAAP, in coordination with Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA), is also continuously working closely to complete the extraction of KAL A330 aircraft from the end of MCIA’s runway 22.

However, the aviation authority said once they remove the damaged airplane, it would probably resume its operations to 100%.

Meanwhile, Philippine Airlines (PAL) Spokesperson Cielo Villaluna in the latest announcement, said their operations have also partially resumed.

Villaluna said during the permitted daylight hours from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., PAL will operate flights between Cebu and Manila and between Cebu and other domestic stations.

During the closure period from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., the following PAL flights were canceled:
