LouiseLOUISE De Los Reyes played the role of the restless spirit in the horror hit “Deleter” and she also just starred in the suspense thriller series on Viva One, “Deadly Love”. Now, she stars in Viva’s new horror movie, “Marita”, showing in theaters on November 22. Looks like really just enjoys scaring the audience.

“The truth is that this is the type of project that really excites me now,” she says. “Kasi before, wala akong ginawa kundi magpaiyak sa soaps. Personally, matatakutin ako, but I now enjoy scaring people. Masaya makitang nagsisigawan sila sa loob ng sinehan.”

In “Marita”, she plays Sandra, a teacher who is tasked by their school to organize a theatre group called Sinag Diwa for their students. It turns out they are staging their production in an old theatre that has not been used for sometime and turns out to be haunted by the vengeful ghost of Marita. At first, ayokong maniwala sa multo but while we are rehearsing, strange things start to happen at lahat kami ay inisa-isa niyang multuhin.”

She used to be just one of the teen stars in GMA’s youth-oriented shows like “Tween Hearts”. How does it feel that she now plays the role of the teacher of her younger students?

“I just turned 30 last September,” she says. “So puede na talaga nila akong teacher. On our first shooting day, I felt like bumalik yung time na teenager din ako and I was starting in GMA. But we all have to move on. Okay lang naman for me to play more mature roles.”

So how did she adjust playing a teacher to her younger co-stars?

“Okay naman. But I have to change my voice kasi medyo mataas ang boses ko, may pagkabungisngis ako. So I have to remind myself to modulate and lower my voice at bawal bumungisngis as their class teacher.”

It’s her first time to work with their director, Roni Benaid? So how is it?

“I’m really thankful to Viva for giving me the chance to work with new and young directors, like Mikhail Red in ‘Deleter’, Roman Perez Jr. in ‘The Housemaid’, Derrick Cabrido in ‘Deadly Love’ and now, Direk Roni Benaid in ‘Marita’. I’m really glad that Viva keeps on giving breaks to new and young filmmakers. Iba-iba sila ng approach and style, but they are all very talented.”

How is Direk Roni different from the other young directors she has worked with?

“Si Direk Roni, he collaborates. Since he also wrote the screenplay, I tell him when I don’t feel comfortable with my lines and if I could reword it in a way na mas magiging effective for me to deliver them. Okay naman sa kanya, he’s very open minded and he really knows what he is doing in scaring the viewers.”

Her co-stars who play her students in “Marita” are all newcomers who are given a break in the movie. These are Ashtine Olviga, Andrea Babierra, Yumi Garcia, Ethan David, Taneo Sebastian, Sara Joe, JD Axie, and Neil Tolentino. How is it working with them?

“Ngayon ko lang sila nakatrabaho but they’re all okay. Committed sila sa work nila. We had a workshop before the shoot started and they have so much enthusiasm to really make good in their roles as victims of the ghost of ‘Marita’. Direk Roni also assisted them well to make sure they deliver. So abangan nyo ang ‘Marita’ when it opens in theaters nationwide on November 22.”
