A CANDIDATE for mayor in a town in Lanao del Sur on Tuesday was arrested over the killing of a market administrator last year.

Suspect Alinader “Badar” Balindong, a 67-year-old former vice mayor of Picong, Lanao del Sur running for mayor in the adjacent town of Malabang, was caught at the Misamis University Medical Center in Bgy. Bagakay, Ozamiz City.

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Lanao del Sur and Misamis Occidental, along with the Ozamiz police, nabbed Balindong based on arrest warrants for murder and frustrated murder issued by the court in Malabang on Nov. 10..

The warrants stemmed from the killing of a market administrator of Malabang in 2020.

CIDG director Maj. Gen. Albert Ferro said Balindong would remain under hospital arrest based on an interim order issued by a court in Lanao del Sur dated Nov. 22.

It was not clear why Balindong was confined in the hospital.

Ferro said the arrest of the former vice mayor was part of the Philippine National Police’s “Oplan Tugis” to account for wanted persons.
