A FEMALE visitor of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) was arrested after she tried to smuggle more than P2 million worth of shabu inside the Maximum security compound Sunday afternoon in Muntinlupa City.

Personnel of the Inmate Visitation Service Unit (IVSU) of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) arrested the suspect, of Marasaga St. Tatalon, Quezon City, following the seizure of more or less 350 grams of shabu valued at P2,380,000 from her possession inside the frisking area of the Maximum Security Compound.

Report reaching the office of Southern Police District (SPD) Director P/BGen. Jimili Macaraeg showed that at around 1:00 p.m., Zuñiga tried to enter the Maximum Security Compound posing as a visitor while carrying four improvised white envelopes sealed with a scotch tape containing four plastic bags of shabu.

However, when she was escorted by IVSU personnel to the frisking area for strict inspection of baggage and body frisking, she started to show signs of anxiety, prompting jail personnel to examine thoroughly the improvised white envelope she was carrying where they found the bulk of shabu which she tried to smuggle inside the Maximum Security Compound.

The suspect was turned over by personnel of BuCor to the District Drug Enforcement Unit (DDEU) for proper disposition pending the filing of a complaint for violation of Section 11 Article II of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act before the Muntinlupa City Prosecutor’s Office.

Macaraeg said the SPD has always intensified its coordination with the BuCor and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to thwart illegal drug activities at the NBP and other detention cells and facilities.

“The campaign on illegal drugs is our top priority. We will continue our partnerships with the BJMP and BuCor to strengthen our drive to prevent all opportunities for traffickers to continue peddling drugs,” Macaraeg said.
