SENATOR Imee Marcos yesterday stressed the critical role child development workers play in tending to the children’s needs while their parents prepare meals, monitor them, and maintain their hygiene, and ensuring that they are learning and socializing.
Senator Imee, chair of the Committee on Social Justice Welfare and Rural Development, said: “And yet, we are not providing any support, training, or assistance to our child development workers who are in charge of our children.”
“While we have been fumbling our children and the workers in charge of them for so many years is really unforgivable, let us work on it,” she added.
The proposed measures seek to provide child development workers with the security of tenure, an appropriate living wage, and humane working conditions.
She encouraged concerned government agencies and other stakeholders to come out with a 3 to 5- plan for child development workers and the necessary budget for their salaries.
